Hello,I own one of these. It leans towards warmth and richness without obscuring notes, and has a very nice sense of ease. It is detailed enough to satisfy, and projects an well-placed soundstage with a good deal of width. The depth is satisfactory, a little detail is lost towards the back (compared to hyper detailed gear like the 3B-ST I owned previously)....but you may never know without direct comparison (and it is still very new). It is sensitive to power cords - the TG Audio power cords really synergize well with it. The 88C is neither forward nor laid back, and the dynamics are very good for the power providing you do not have a nasty load to drive (ie. - less than 4 ohms).
It continues to get better as time goes on - I probably have about 50-60 hours on it so far, and it seems to be opening up and delivering more detail as time goes on. It makes listening less of a job and more of a pleasure if that makes any sense.
Basically there is nothing in the $400 range that I have heard that even comes close sonically or in build quality. I used to own NAD, Cambridge, etc.....those are not competitive with this. This is more of a competitor (sonically and build quality-wise) for the integrateds in the $1-2K range. I prefer it (in my system, with my preferences) to the Sim I-5080, Primare I-20, and Classe CAP-151 I owned previously.
Hope this helps!
