Re: What about Tenor or Lamm hybrid amps for alternative rock ?

lancelot,

Not to bore you with the details, but my search for an audio system did start off with the Simaudio P-5/W-5 pre/amp and Nova CD player. I started off looking at JMlab speakers, first Electra 936's, then the bigger, very expensive JMlab Utopia Alto Be's (25K Canadian). Yet, I thought before I spent all that money, I should seriously look at alternative speakers (either cheaper or similarly priced). So, after a lot of auditions (e.g. Dynaudio, Wilson Audio, Focus Audio, Living Voice etc etc) that has lead me to consider the lower end Kharma speakers, i.e. the 2.X and 3.X series as another avenue to consider. Unfortunately, most of the positive reviews have usually paired these speakers with tube or hybrid amps e.g. Lamm or the Canadian Tenor Hybrid amps. So, now I am just exploring these as alternatives to the Simaudio. I used to be dead set against tubes ... Yet, an A/B comparison between the Simaudio P-5 and Hovland HP-100 really opened my ears. One Ryan Adams track and I was amazed at how much more musical and liquid the Hovland tube pre was. So, now I am open to other Canadian possibilities such as Tenor. Of course, even going with used equipment, we are in a different stratosphere than the Simaudio.
