I had bought the Odyssey monoblocks with the cap upgrade and the Tempest pre/amp along with his personal pair of Legato speakers along with several pair of Groneberg I/C's and powercords. I then got the itch to go back to tubes and sold the amps and pre/amp and tried several tube amps including Cary SLM 100, Quicksilver V4's, AudioNote integrated and Mastersound integrated and several tubed pre/amps. Then a job layoff came and I had to sell everything.I called Klaus and asked him to put me together a nice Stratos and inquired if the extreme update was available for it. He told me he had only done 1 or 2 others for friends and really did not want to do the extreme upgrade because of cost considerations. He made an exception in my favor and I have never been happier. While I have not done a direct comparison to the monoblocks, from memory this Stratos is at least 75-85% of the performance of the monoblocks, if not more. I finally got the detail, soundstaging and imaging that I was missing with the other high quality tube amps.
The extreme Stratos has to be one of the best values on the market! I would put this up against any amp in the 4-6K range.
