the link I provided references using 80's era TL072s and NE5532s. Those are cheap enough to experiment if you're interested.
Time warp back to late 70s when I was using the Acoustat X. The servo charge amps originally used a Harris LM741 and was replaced by TL072s in about 1979. It was an easy socket enabled swap and definitely elevated the sound quality.
