Cary SLI-80 Int Amp problem

End of June I posted about a problem with my Cary SLI-80 Sig. Int. Amp. It was the AC fuse and thanks to you all I got through several issues. 5 months later the AC fuse blew again. I replaced it and all was fine for a week.

Last night the amp was on and warming up prior to play. There was a loud pop with volume at zero. With music selected and volume up there was ALMOST NO sound from the right channel. Each speaker driver had music but at extremely low volume. In addition there was a smell like a burning candle from the amp. All the tubes looked fine and were lit.

I need to flip it over, remove bottom plate and examine the internals (while disconnected from mains and system). Before I do that I'll check the tube fuses but with that smell I'm thinking burnt resistor or capacitor. But if it's the right channel tube fuse, what is the root cause when all the tubes are lit and look fine?

==> any advice before I attempt this?
