Well, I'll tell you this, I have an 8 watt Wavelength 300B powering my Avalon Acoustic Symbols @ 87dB sensitivity. Everyone says it shouldn't work, but for me it does. I have a small space and don't listen above 85dB peaks. I get more music out of this amp than with my 55 watt PP 6550, or my 60 watt NAD SS integrated. By music, I mean tone, separation, inner detail, and depth. I know, according to the rules it's not supposed to work. I'm not saying I get everything out of it, and I'd love to have more efficient speakers, but that's not in the cards right now. I don't know if 3 watts is enough, but for me I get all the volume I need from 8, and if the specs are correct I'm not even using 1. And yes, I do listen to Mahler with it.
Sorry I don't have any "reasonable" SET suggestions, I got mine used off of Audiogon years ago for $1500. MSRP I think was $3500, including the WE 300B's, when it sold new 20 or so years ago.
