It's the where that's the issue! Don't mind snow and dry cold (if I don't have to drive in it), but wet PNW cold and humidity anywhere, I can't stand.
Don't really want to get into the politics, but we've been in this house for 22 years, our taxes are low and our assessed value is WAY less than market. Just pulled some cash out to sit on (and buy audio equipment with). All things considered it's a marvelous asset that even under the most dire of political considerations will do nothing but appreciate. Well, until the big one, even then the lot is worth a small fortune and someone would be happy to rebuild (not us though). There is no shortage of buyers or renters, only a very brief interruption in 2009 or so, but it came right back. For lots of people it's the ideal place. I just hate the small box in the boring 'burb where there's nothing to do unless you get in your car. Always hated that. Lived in a condo in downtown Minneapolis for a couple of years going to school and it was pretty great. I'd prefer a moderately larger house on some acreage somewhere that has seasons though.
