As long as the speakers have an easy impedance and you're getting enough volume and you like it, you're done.
My 98 db so called sensitivity, Altec Model 19s surely didn't work with 2 watt 45s. A Dynaco ST-30 is sweet, but doesn't quite handle the bass like a Mac MC-30. It's about head room and enough. It reminds me of using 300B amps with my old Straight 8s, maybe 96 db and easy to drive. At louder volumes it stopped, it got louder and the distortion was pleasant, but it ran out of gas.
If 12 watts works for you, be happy.
