RE: The LSA Voyager GaN amp is finally here

I admit that I don't have access to the market research done by Peachtree and Underwood but I don't see that much demand for 350-400 WPC amps no matter how attractive the $3000 price is or how complimentary published reviews may be.

Consider if you will the hoopla generated when the Purifi modules recently found their way into amplifiers and integrated amps. NAD has successfully utilized the module for three products that I know of but so far, no copycats or imitators have been rushed into the market. I applaud NAD just as I do LSA and Peachtree because they've introduced what many consider wonderful equipment. Are the NAD amps flooding into the market and diminishing demand for all other amps? It doesn't look like it.

If LSA, Peachtree, and very soon Mytek can sell 5,000 GaN amps in the US their first calendar year, I would say that they will have done very well. However, they're up against established products already purchased for their attractiveness, quality, and reliability. Potential customers will think twice before they warm up their Visa cards.

I think that Class D products have a bright future in the audio/video world. They have a lot of desirable qualities for both budding and gray haired audiophiles. Sure, there will be some impulse buyers wanting the latest offerings but unless manufacturers can generate enough demand from new customers, they will have good reason be cautious in their production runs.
