RE: Unike Some I Really do Think There are Stupid Questions...But What the Heck

What I'm really trying to do is determine whether I like my speakers enough to keep them, or move to more efficient ones that would use less power. My 55 watt amp gives me all the volume I need, but Abe's telling me below it's not all about the volume. I've found that 100 watt tubed power is hard(er) to come by than SS and is less practical for me. If my speakers need that kind of tubed power to sound their best I probably should move on and find something else. I've tried them with a similar powered NAD C340 50 watt SS integrated and the sound was disappointing, so I think tubes are it for me. I like them enough to give better/higher powered SS a try first.

My budget? All over the place depending on what I need to replace. 20-25k for an entire new system is ball park. 5-10k for amplification depending on whether I need to change speakers (5 if I do, 10 if I don't). Also depends on integrated or power only. I have a tubed pre that sounds great, but lacks remote, which I REALLY need with my bad knees.
