" you can claim it on the house insurance."I guess that most readers of this will be in North America so forgive me for mentioning this if it does not apply to you.
Most home insurance policies here in the UK contain a passage in the small print defining the maximum insurable value of any single item. This value can be significantly lower than the replacement value of much of today's high end audio equipment. Cheap policies offer the lowest maximum insurable values (unsurprisingly). I just checked a cheap policy and they won't pay out more than 2K gbp (2776 USD) per item. Also bear in mind that the reality is that for us here the payment also has to cover 20% tax on the replacement article. So for readers on the other side of the pond that is like an equivalent of a payout of $2200 per item tops. NB: This is not the same as cover for " valuables" which are defined as things like jewellery, paintings etc, not electronics.
As I said things may be different in the US or Canada but I think it may still be prudent to check the small print in your policy to see if your audio system requires specialist insurance cover especially if you are fortunate to own an expensive system.
