I have a Plinius preamp and phono stage from their earlier days ( an M13 and M14 combination) so that may not be directly relevant to you. However I have not used them for years having replaced them with a tube pre and tube phonstage. So kind of the reverse of your intention.

I think that there is a kind of magic when using a good SUT with an MC which I have not come across with any high gain headamp. A choice of good tubes ( which I see that you are concerned with) adds further to this. So I suspect that once the thrill of owning a new piece of equipment has worn off you may well regret the change.

As for quality tubes, yes I do use NOS Telefunkens or Tungsrams in my pre amp. However I have recently bought a new phonstage and new headphone amp both of which came with a mixture of new Russian ( Electro Harmonix 12 AX7) or Chinese tubes ( disguised with amp producer's brand but I believe a variant of PSvane CV 181) . So time to start tube rolling eh? In fact these tubes sound so good ( admittedly specially selected by the manufacturer) that I feel no need whatsoever to change them. Over the weekend I heard some new replica Western Electric 300Bs from a new Chinese manufacturer formed by ex-PSvane engineers called Lin Lai which uses the old British valve brand name of Cossor. Absolutely outstanding sound.

So I think you should stick with what you have or even consider replacing the Parasound with a tube model if you can find one within budget offering the facilities you want. You can stop worrying about future tube supply. Current production seems to show that much has been learned over the past years as I can remember when finding NOS tubes was more or less mandatory. It's now looking pretty good if you are happy to buy the better Russian or Chinese glassware.
