I lived in SD for 3 years in the late 80s. I loved it, especially Anza Borego and Baja. And I should have married the Mexican girlfriend :)
In some ways it is a curse that I spent upwards of 20 years listening to live music all around Boston, New England, Quebec, etc. My concert experiences read like a whos who of greatest Classical,Rock,Jazz, Reggae artists of the past 50 years. People would not believe it if I listed them.
And I apparently have good "audio memory" - for lack of a better word. So I can still hear in my head the "live" sound - the whomph and deep rumble of the tympani, the breathy vocals, the ring of the glockenspeil, shimmer of the cymbals, brassy sputter of the trumped, knock and crack of drum rim shot, etc. etc. etc.
It is quite difficult to get close to those sonics in a living room...
