Early September 1990. I was 18, and had been into high-end audio for six months. I was merely waiting at home in SF, for my sophomore year at UC Santa Cruz to begin. My cousin from Hawaii was spending some time at our house. My brother had the Hokubei Mainichi newspaper route around Japantown. His coworker Todd was supplying us with heavy metal music, including Prong's Beg To Differ .
And that was when the September 1990 Stereophile arrived. Its interview of Tim De Paravicini was the first we'd ever heard of him. Maybe he was at the 1990s Stereophile Shows in San Francisco, but I did not see him. Years later, in the 2000s, we would get EAR's Acute CD player and 324 phonostage. RIP, Tim!
