Problem is, my friend has ears but he is also very stubborn.
When the seller of the speakers dropped them at his place, he kept repeating the only amps worth having are old Sansui integrateds. Since that day, even tho I sent my friend a thousand links to different excellent amps of all technologies (tube, solid state, class D) he only seems interested in the couple of Sansui I dropped in the mix.
I told him you can't put too much credit in a coke addict antique dealer with anger management issues (the seller of the speakers... long story) but my friend still wants an old Sansui. He says he's just curious, but in the meantime he barely checked any of the other options, so he most likely is much more than curious.
I told him about the dangers of using an unrestored amp from 40 years ago (not to mention, the amp probably sounds very far from what it's capable of), the dangers of having that amp destroying the speakers when it dies...I've been there, I've done that, I've had 30 or more vintage amps, some quite high end, sounding "meh" and being unreliable, then one day I listened to my current class D and I was hooked, sold all the rest in a heartbeat.
Now I completely understand the attraction to those fabulous looking and feeling high end integrateds from the golden age of hi-fi, but he should at the very least have them recapped...
