Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |
|
I have been looking for a reasonably priced SS amplifier for quite a long time but as a SET guy I don't want to put too much coin to SS amplification. The SS will occupy a second system fore review purposes. I have been auditioning second hand and new amplifiers from many of the major players and some not so major players.
I initially planned to get something like the A23+ which is $1500US and is stable to 2 ohms. It has a nice feature - a voltage switch on the back - that allows me to keep the amp when it's time to move back to Canada from Asia.
The JC-1 has no switch but apparently can be adjusted internally with some jiggery-pokery.
I am mainly looking for experience with regards to reliability, noise, hum etc.
I can get the Dealer demo JC-1 ($4,500US) for three times the price of a new A23+ so it's in the land of reasonable. Both come with the same 1 year warranty.
