RE: And

Having lived in Mainland China - you're not wrong.

Panagopolous Pizza opened a restaurant in Wenzhou, where I lived. For the first month it was up to US standards (which isn't exactly great but still) where the pizza had x amount of cheeze and toppings. They cleaned the tables and floors with soap and water. The washrooms had hand soap.

The Americans left.

A month later - no hand soap in the washrooms (or paper towels). Piuzza had half the toppings - they mopped the floor with water (no soap). We got the runs.

Interestingly, the Chinese owned and operated pizza place was quite a lot better in terms of cleanliness. Though the English translation on the menu was less appetizing. Instead of "sausage" it read "Roasts the intestines" - to be fair that is probably more honest - I ordered the vegetarian!

I get a sense if you buy from a company where the company owner is genuinely an audiophile and loves music and wants to make money but also wants to make a good product you are better off going with a Chinese owned and operated company. If you are buying a western brand that opens shop in China to save labour costs then they look at you as someone to rob blind - they will funnel parts out the back door cut every corner possible. Oh and they will steal any original design your product has. They will make copies of it as well.

And the problem is most people buying don't know which is which. Is this the one that uses fakes and will burn your house down or is the "good one" where they make an honest product?

The cream rises to the top typically. So Tone Imports' John Halpern brings in the likes of Sugden and Shindo and Leben - he also deals Line Magnetic. LM buys caps from Mundorf so this is not your usual Chinese junk. He has been carrying LM for several years so if they were nightmares in the field they would have dropped them by now.

But here's the thing - LM isn't a "deal" - you're not getting them cheaper than US or European brands. Ditto Prima Luna or Antique Sound Lab or Melody Valve Audio.

I have seen plenty or ARC/Audio Note/McIntosh/Rogue Audio/Shindo/Einstein/NAT/Kronzilla in for repairs too so it's not like major name brands never fail.

SS is another issue
