I use polystyrene sheets that I cut to size, so that the device is tightly packed in the first box - leaving room for knobs and jacks, bubble wrap around the device; then this first box goes into a bigger box which also has two or three layers of polystyrene (as many layers as I can put, the more the better)cut to size so it doesn't move, and some softer material (foam, bubble wrap...) between the smaller box and the big box's plystyrene, to allow for A LITTLE BIT of "controlled play".I've sent amps, preamps, even a turntable all around the globe and never had any issue.
