In the US there are no-knock entrances - a woman was recently shot and killed in her bed in the US. They can storm into your house in the US and shoot you dead now.
I agree with you on China's encroachment of capturing land - I taught in China an I asked one of the students why they are going to this Canadian school. With a Canadian High School certificate the students would be able to go to college in most any western country like Canada, USA, UK etc. The reply from one student was "My dad says so we can take you over from the inside." A joke? err maybe but joking in a second language doesn't usually happen until they hit a certain level of English.
Why fire shots when you can buy up law firms, companies, ports, enter politics etc. But then other countries allow them to do it so blame can go around. America went to China after all - they are the ones that saw the dollar signs. They opened the floodgates (Tricky Dick - that honest fellow - sent them down the path).
Consider though that I am a fairly liberal guy who is disgusted by your president. Does that mean I should not buy amplifiers from ARC - after all their products had to be tested by the Government for safety which is what China does with Cayin. So because the government is involved and I hate the current US leader - I should then screw over Sally who is sitting at a bench soldering boards for ARC? Now me I would not do that - I don't buy ARC because I don't like the sound of the product.
I just hate the idea that while our intentions to buy our homeland may be quite good and valid - we're not really hurting the targets - it's like a war and all you hit are civilians.
Lastly, Buying American sounds great but there are variable and fixed costs. So take ABC American Amplifier company. Everything the company purchases - EVERYTHING is a cost that is reflected in the retail price of the amplifier sold. So you check all the parts nuts screws boards wires. Any Chinese parts ANYWHERE in the amplifier? Some of them claim American made and yet they source the most critical parts from China - like the transformers.
The engineer who designed the ABC amplifier - he sits at a computer - any Chinese parts anywhere inside that computer? His phone where he has to phone customers and plan his day - any Chinese made parts ANYWHERE inside his smart phone? These are all the fixed costs but those fixed costs are part of the price you pay when you buy his ABC amplifier.
The chairs all the staff sit upon - any Chinese made parts? Staplers, rubber bands, paper clips, pens/pencils/ machinery to make the amps, company T-shirts, coffee mugs, coffee machines, tools, all 100% not made in China?
And then the people buying all this stuff and complaining about China in audio - well what about your refrigerator, home computer - or any and everything you own? It seems a bit hypocritical to single out amplifiers.
You want to be anti-China then do it - go through your entire house and get rid of anything that is made in China. And then you will have a second problem - much of the other stuff will be made in other countries that have horrendous and appalling government track records as well.
Interestingly I have far less problems with the two Chinese Brothers who LOVE Western Electric and restored WE amplifiers for a decade and then decided to open Line Magnetic making modern day WE amps. Audiophiles starting a company. I would rather buy from those guys than buy from some western company who lays off his workers and moves to China to get away with lax pollution laws and can use slave wage labour to make a few extra bucks. The latter seem more predatory to me.
