Hi Abe,
I bought my unit pre-owned on Audiogon. If I were buying new Cayin equipment I'd start with VAS Audio. Steve Leung is a great guy. I'm sure he could answer questions about their product line.
For me, the Cayin amp simply trounced the Rogue. It's a very natural presentation. It's warmer but not to the point of being soft or mushy. It's a big, open inviting sound. There's no mistaking the sound to be anything other than a well-made classic tube amplifier. This is not something I could always say about the Rogue. A very good amp - yes. But listening to the same recording on both amps, in this case the Impex release of the Thelonious Monk Quartet's " Monk's Dream" the differences are obvious. The Cayin presents this wonderful music as a living, breathing organic entity. It makes me want to keep listening. No fatigue, which wasn't always the case with the Rogue. That amp sometimes, with some recordings, seemed to lack the tone I wanted to hear.
The build quality is better, much better. It' all point-to-point wiring. The feel of the controls is ultra smooth and precise. And, you can switch between triode and ultralinear on the remote. No removing the top plate to switch between 4 and 8 ohm settings. Just select the desired setting on the back panel.
I'm using Gold Lion KT88s. I had KT120s in the Rogue, so the sound comparison isn't exactly apples to apples. Still I knew instantly when I got the Cayin that this thing was in another league from the Rogue.
