Re: Ebay & Counterpoint Experience not the best

Over the past thirteen years, I have owned three Counterpoint components, so I have a few data points I can share from personal experience. The first unit was a SA-3.1 I purchased new in 1986. The second was a SA-20 I purchased in 1987. The most recent is a SA-5.1, upgraded by Mike Elliott, received last week.

Never had a problem with the SA-3.1, until I sold it in 1989. Still use the SA-20 in my system, a MOSFET blew once in 1995, and was repaired (not under warranty) by Elliott. The SA-5.1 was damaged the first time in shipping (tube board broken loose from main circuit board). Returned the unit to Elliott and had it repaired under warranty. He also had a sturdy wooden shipping crate made for the return shipping, for protection (free of charge). In my system, the SA-5.1 was susceptable to RFI. Again, I returned the unit, and he had the power supply cord replaced with a metal braided shielded version, as well as RFI filters at the inputs. No more RFI. This took longer than I would have preferred (due to parts ordering and shipping transit time), but to their credit, they worked on the problem, and fixed it.

To my ears, the Counterpoint units sound great, especially the SA-5.1. Hope this helps...
