I used tubed components from McIntosh, Conrad Johnson, Sophia, Cary Audio, etc. off and on from 1972 to about 2016. In 2016 I was using Cary Audio 2a3 mono blocks to power the midrange and super tweeter horns of my tri-amplified fully horn loaded DIY speakers. At that time I became fed up with the hassles of tube degeneration, replacement and expense and decided to find out if solid state amps could sound as good.Based on a review in Six Moons audio I bought a First Watt F3, a single ended, single gain stage, pure class stereo amp with JFET output transistors. I loved its sound so much I bought a second F3 and got rid of the 2a3 SETs.
My system still has all the immediacy, warmth, color and very long term listenability I got with the 2a3 mono blocks. In fact I now like the sound better, and I am free of tube angst and slowly deteriorating sound quality.
I dream of an America where a chicken can cross the road without having it's motives questioned.
