RE: Accuphase - What's the difference between a stereo control center and a preamp?

"Stereo control center" was nothing else than a fancy name to say "preamplifier", in most cases.
While a true preamp can be deemed unnecessary nowadays, if you have a few different sources, it helps your power amp being fed from a single, stable, low impedance source - and that is what your preamp output is.

If you are planning to buy vintage, beware of capacitors aging.
