Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

RE: Stick with solid state if you have to have instant gratification.

Have you heard that specific model?

I mean my low-pass amp costs 70$ on Amazon and my high-pass amp was around 300$ including all the modding and the upgraded PSU.
As such I don't belong to the "there's no decent amp under 2000$" category, let alone the "there's no good amp under 5000$" folks
I know that specifically, tube amps generally cost much more to BUILD than their class D / AB counterparts but I also know that in a system with two Chinese class D amps, and a 250$ Chinese DAC, it could be" politically correct" to use a 200$ tube amp, all things considered.

I don't really get the bias against China and their cheap amplifiers; there's crap, and there's good stuff.
I would be inclined to believe Steve Guttenberg's Audiophiliac review and the 5 stars ratings on Amazon rather than a "cheap crappy tube amps from China" automatic bias, sorry (and I'm sure you mean well).
To close that little rant, I would argue that if Schiit Audio is able to propose a fully fonctional tube preamp MADE IN THE USA for around 800$, then there's no reason why a country like china shouldn't be able to propose great value 12W/ Channel tube amp for 200$.
No Manley beater, rest assured, but probably good enough for those who don't have the money?

Anyways.

I'm really not sure I will go down that road since the practical/reliability/electricity consumption is too far off from what I (and more importantly my second half) are used to; I had the same dilemma when I wanted to try a small class A amp based on the JLH69 circuit.
