Measurements should just be an indication of how an amp has been carefully thought out, built with care (you'd expect a solid state, class AB amp to have vanishingly low distortion; if it's somewhat weirdly specced in that department you'd be inclined to think there might be something to be worried about, except if there's a specificity to the circuit that you are aware of), and if it will match the rest of your electronics (input sensitivity, impedance matching, enough juice to drive the speakers) and not IMHO to assess if its going to sound more "real" than another amp: we are all ultimately trying to squeeze a full orchestra, or a vocalist or a grand piano or a MOOG, into a living room via a pair of vibrating diaphragms, which is such a departure from the "real event" to start with, that in the end it all comes down to personal preference and associations.
That's why I always cringe at subjectivists demolishing a product without having heard it because "the constructor didn't publish full specs".
I care more about measurements if a device (like an active crossover or processor) is supposed to pass the signal to the following component without adding its own sound signature; a component you don't want to actually HEAR should have the best possible specs.
Ultimately, I trust reviews - from known reviewers AND from actual users - and look at the specs if for some reason the component doesn't match my expectations.
