Your gear offers no fewer than four different ways to do it!
You could put the equalizer in the EXT UNIT loop, but that might well be always engaged. I would choose one of the TAPE DECK sets. Pick one.
Run cables for each channel from REC OUT on preamp to IN PUT on equalizer.
Run cables for each channel from OUT PUT on equalizer to PLAYBACK on preamp.
On the front panel, there will be a button or switch to engage the TAPE DECK number you chose. Switch it to engage equalizer or choose to bypass it.
Not all preamps have three separate tape monitor loops as yours. If you only had one, your equalizer offers its own tape monitor loop on it to ensure you haven't lost that capability.
Back in the day when folks used three head tape decks, it was possible to literally monitor the just recorded image on the tape and instantly compare it to that which was being recorded.
Does that make sense?
