Oh, one final thought. I wonder if you were able to compare the level of detail in the lower bass notes, light plucking of the upright bass as an example.
Didn't really notice much in that regard during my comparisons, but oddly the Ncore had more of a pronounced upper bass as compared with the tubes - as in "fat". Perhaps that is along the lines of your question.
I do, however, take enjoyment in the quality of bass reproduction. I like hearing the strike and skin of a concert bass drum "waft" pass me (think The Firebird ). Some synthesized bass can be fun, too. Take the "Hard Feat" track from Rihanna's "Rated R" album. There is a underlying fundamental in the upper first octave range that lies underneath the rhythm with a really tasty texture that ripples with weight.
Following my first post about the garage, Dave mused about the incredulity that the amp could sound clean with all that negative feedback. Perhaps space - the final frontier - is where that approach still needs work. :)
