RE: Classe DR-6R Preamp-Looking for feedback

I owned a DR 6 MKII which was one of my favorite audio purchases ever (supposedly the DR-6R was even better). First, it was extremely well designed with terrific tank-like build quality and was a really good-looking component - equal to anything at the highest level of audio (think Audio Research Reference level). Mine was fully balanced, although it had only 1 (?) pair of balanced inputs. Reviews at the time lauded it's MC/MM phono stage and sound quality. The "line out" had a very low output impedance which could drive very long interconnects. The David Reich designs were said by some to be better than those that followed after he left Classe and some are regarded as true classics.

Now on the sound - wonderful. Low noise however, not the last word in transparency by today's standards, but close enough. Very natural sounding with good tonal balance, but just a little "dark". Not analytical. Highs and mids really nice and balanced. Outstanding bass. Soundstage was good, typical of the better solid state gear. In some ways I liked it more than the Pass Labs X0.2 that replaced it. I regretted selling it for months afterwards.

Many people would be happy to own it in their main system. Sorry I can't tell you about the DR-6R directly, but I know you'll really like it.

Oh, Classe has/had a reputation for taking excellent care of customers. I had an issue (I did something really stupid...) and they fixed it and shipped it back at no cost to me.
