I was using an Art Audio Vinyl 1 with variable gain. The gain was fine with the AAV1 gain control set at the 12 o'clock position. I recall that the AAV1 full gain output could go up to 70 db.
Yes, I tried the MM output. The SLI-80 volume knob was then at the 1:30 position. The sound seemed to lack some drive compared to using the MC output and the 47k load resulted in a too bright of sound for my tastes using the Ruby Z cartridge.
