Yes, I know I'm replying to an over 4 year old post so let the hate mail begin, but please be gentle as this integrated amp is widely used and loved and tube rolling is considered to be a right of passage on this amp. So with an update in mind, here goes.
I recently replaced the 14 month old stock EH KT-88s with the reissue Genalex Gold Lion KT-88s that Jack mentioned above and also installed the RCA coke bottle 5U4s and installed RCA 6SN7s. At first I thought my ears would burn off. Note Jack's comment on the detail of the RCA coke bottle tubes. I think it could be the combination of those tubes and the Genalex PRIOR TO burn-in. Let these tubes burn-in for 50 to 100 hours before making a judgement. They've become much smoother and musical. The detail is still there. I reinstalled the stock EH 6922s after trying Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8s for a month. The Amperex were overly top end emphasized for my tastes even after a month. Back to EH6922 and subsequent liquid bliss. Everything is system matching so perhaps this was conditional on the Genalex and NOS RCA tubes that were installed after the previous stock installation of all EH tubes. Also, soundstage is good but I can't say that it is exceptionally improved over the stock EH tubes, perhaps a little. It is 3D but I don't think you could use the term "holographic" as others have when describing soundstage.
I wish for happy tube rolling for you all in this extremely versatile amplifier!
