I owned an Adcom 5802 I bought it used 2-3 years ago from a reliable source (also owned a 5800 which I actually liked better). Nice design (Nelson Pass collaboration). Liked the sound ok. Had a problem with it several months later that took out part of one channel including some of the output transistors. The amp was NOT overdriven.
Here's more or less what Approved Audio Service, an authorized Adcom repair facility in central CT, told me: 'These amps are relatively complex designs. The older models are difficult to get parts for. Adcom sold off their entire parts inventory to one of their repair centers on the East Coast several years ago during a business reorganization and they control whatever parts remain.'
I ended up junking it.
These amps are now nearing time for replacement of their power supply capacitors which would likely cost $100-150.
I'd look for something newer that's less likely to need repair.
