Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

How's the Cary SLP-05 preamp with jazz? Does it scream for big amplification and large speakers? I'd likely get a smaller SS amp to pair with it and my current speakers are Meadowlark Ospreys.
Since I listen mostly to jazz, I'm looking for more texture, richer midrange, better dimensionality, and more liquidity than I currently have. What I have is not bad in these areas, but it's not ideal either.
I also listen to some rock, especially Hendrix, and power is great for that but our 17x15 living room won't handle a lot of power. My current Plinius 9200 rarely gets above the 10 o'clock position on the volume dial for vinyl and only 8 o'clock for a CD.
Or should I just go with an all c-j tube combination such as the ET-3se and Classic 60se?
I know I need to listen to one but I'd appreciate your input prior to doing a 4 hour drive to hear one.
Thanks!
