i'd say try to talk to the seller BEFORE placing a bid. if you decide to back out it will be a lot easier w/o having won the auction.
my second point is if the deal does not feel right, dont do it. a bad deal is a lot worse to deal with than simply waitning for the next good deal to come along - they always do.
