How did you test the remote? If you believe the remote is functioning properly you can 'reset' the communication between the pre and remote by unplugging the pre and then plugging it back in and powering up while holding down the power button on the remote or if none is present, the selector button on the remote.
If this fails to remedy things it could be a failed micro chip in the remote control circuitry which could end up being expensive to repair.
Sounds to me like you inadvertently changed the code by using a cell phone
or other high output device in close proximity to the pre-amp.
My cell phone changes the source selection when I press send on my cell phone. Go figure.
