Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

hi folks,
got my brandnew MC275 MKIV yesterday :)) what a fine looking amp! and it also sounds fine right out of the box...thus i thought when using the 8 ohm position of the output transformers. today i tried the 16 ohm position and immediately noticed that the amp sounds more precisely, detailed, showing more dynamics and punch. (harder snare drum, exact bass etc.).
ok-the 8 or 4 ohm position makes fun also, sounding smooth, convenient and a bit charming...but not true if you want my opinion.
i do not know the effective impedance of my rather critical speakers (bending wave unit for mid- and high range with 4 ohms plus classic eton 8 ohm woofer for bass combined with a very complicated crossover network).
what is your experience with this phenomena and what your advice? is the output position you just like best - independent from speaker impedance - the "correct" one?
thank you!
N.
