I do believe you "never had to replace the tube". However, if you had, in fact, ever owned an Audio Research SP14, much less having it "for 10 years", you would have known that it uses a single 6DJ8 and not a 12AX7. Even if we accept you accidentally typed in the wrong type number, show us any model/version of 6DJ8 that lasted more than 87,658 hours in continuous operation. I will buy all of those I can find!
-Plus, we know from Allen Wright that tubes in Audio Research preamps only survive for "three months"!
