Oh No! The resistofragulator has decarbonated the sine waves!

Dominguez,

I can't comment on the mute arrangement for an ARC LS26, but the SP8, SP10, and LS3 are dead silent in mute. With a D115 (100W tube) amplifier, there's only the smallest amount of tube rush audible with my ear almost on the tweeter and the solid state LS3 and D130 are amazingly quiet in or out of mute.

Actually, I thought that the whole point of MUTE is to have complete muting to prevent potential speaker damage from substantial switching noises. I have a $150 Sony 100W receiver that has noticeable volume when the volume control is at zero- there's no mute switch-, but not the Audio Research Stuff- 0 gain is silent as is mute. Still, if Leonard says some sound is proper, he knows this gear intimately. By the way, Leonard mentioned to me a couple of years ago that he uses an LS25 at home.

I can't help feeling though that something (quite small) is amiss. Is the fact that the mute functions differently side to side a sign of some passive component having retired? - One of the very few repairs to the SP10 in the last 23 years was to the mute circuit. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what was faulty- a capacitor I think.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but fortunately there are among us those of infinite electronic wisdom who will comment.

Cheers,

Bambi B
