racerguy,
Yes, I've seen the factory tour portion of the ARC website, but as far as I can see, it only mentions their use of Wilson speakers in R&D. And, you're right that that the "tour" is a few years old- the article used is dated October 15, 2001. They mention working on updating an LS5- which was made from 1993 to about 1996 or 97, so the information is hardly current.
And, I maintain that if there are inputs called "Tuner" and "Video" on the gear, its logical to believe the company would try various examples of those, as well as CD players and amplifiers other than their own. No audio company can assume the user will use only components made by them. That tuners are noisy and limited bandwidth would, if I were designing amplifiers, take this into consideration in the design and the compatibility in video-also systems too. ARC obviously- the number of revisions and upgrades is testimony to that- and spends a lot of time in R&D at substantial cost and I don't think they slack off in any area. Why wouldn't ARC just use "AUX 1, 2, and 3" if they didn't expect people would use serious tuners and video connected systems? If I were selling $XXXX gear expecting people would plug a $XXXX tuner or the audio output of DVD players into it, I would make sure that worked well. And, in my epxerience it does: some oft the best FM I've ever heard has been a 1965 McIntosh MR67 tube tuner through the LS3/ D130 in the office. The very neutral solid state lets the MR 67 personality shine through.
Thank you for your replies, the additional information as to turntable and wires seen there is helpful.
Cheers,
Bambi B
