I haven't heard the ARs. I own the Modwright and, as suggested by Saltyflies, its sound can be altered with a change in the rectifier. A NOS Mullard GZ34, 32 or 37 or a Tung Sol 5U4GB can substantially improve the resolution, liquidity and harmonic richness w/o detracting anything from its other strengths.
