You are quite rignt about other/better options. In fact I just placed 2x80mm computer case fans on the cage of my McIntosh MC275. After completing my usual O/C investigation, I knew enough to purchase 12V DC fans, with roller bearings instead of sleeve bearings and power them, in parallel, with a 9V wall wart from RS. Buying the wall wart from RS was very helpful since I was able to try 3 different (voltage) warts and return 2.
