The 777 listed at $1400 in 1980. Used Average is $340. 2x100w/ch and 50 lbs.
the 776 listed at $999 and has a used avg. price of $150. Also released in 1980 and is a massive 35 lbs.
I have no idea on where to find schematic, but basic upgrades are easy and you don't necessarily need a schematic. My advise is to try working on the power supplies in each unit with new filtering caps, better rectifiers, etc. Once the PS have new and reliable power caps, you can do some key coupling caps.
I'd say they're worth playing with, but I like to tweak.
