Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

The answer to your question is Class AB

A Class AB amplifier is always operating in Class AB.

It never operates in Class A but at times it shares one of the characteristics of Class A. Namely that at low(er) power all of the output devices operate without reaching cutoff. This is something that a Class A amplifier does all the time.

It never operates in Class B but at times it shares one of the characteristics of Class B. Namely that at high(er) power half of the output devices do reach cutoff. This is something that a Class B amplifier does all the time.

A Class AB amplifier is neither Class A or Class B.
It is, at all times, Class AB.
