But part of the definition of Class A is that the output devices are biased half way between saturation and cutoff.

A AB amp can be biased so that more of the first watts are delivered when both devices are remain on through the full cycle but that, in and of itself, does not make those watts "Class A watts". It is easier to say "Class A watts" than to explain with I just did.

Again, in a Class A amp all of the amplifying devices are biased in the middle of the most linear part of the operating curve and never allowed to reach into the non-linear portions of that curve approaching cutoff or saturation.
