What the box below is I haven't heard an explanation. The top box definitely has an AC socket and the board on the lower left is probably a power supply so I doubt the lower box is a power supply.Possibly the box underneath is a stereo amp based on the Nilai500 module.
I'd bet the volume control is digital but that's not 100% clear; it might be a "digitally-controlled analog" volume chip like the PGA2311 in my Sonic Frontiers. {edit}The brochure says "fully analogue".{/edit} Likewise I'd bet the gain is supply with op amps but it's not certain either. The fact that the control knobs aren't labelled doesn't clarify anything.
