People tend to like froo froo amps with their classical - which can render rock philosophical rather than rockus.
An amplifier should play everything well (just be truthful to the source disc) BUT, that's not what all amplifiers are about or speakers for that matter - McIntosh IMO is geared for a crowd that listens to rock music and it's not particularly nuanced or eloquent to do music that requires that.
It's a more macro dynamic big drive sounding product and IMO isn't generally good at the other end of the spectrum which is why I don't have one. Becuase I love their looks, size and tacky manly man appeal. They just don't sound very good to me unfortunately/.
