You'll have to forgive e-stat. ..From my past exchanges w/ him I find he gets rather apoplectic when his audio belief system is challenged.Despite the lack of any quality empirical evidence that they cause harm to the sound E-Stat is convinced that adding features - like tone controls, balance control, wattage meters, power-guard, etc. - is an unforgivable offense to the sensibilities of a true audiophile. ..Or maybe he's just projecting his distain toward the wealthy onto the brand many of them seem to enjoy. Or maybe he's just trying too hard to be the informed connoisseur who feels he must hate what the un-informed like. ..Kinda like the movie reviewer who strains to find fault with the movie everyone else thinks is near perfect.
In any case, his (and others) continuous disparaging of McIntosh just doesn't make sense. ..There are countless other brands of audio gear that are WAY more expensive and nearly all of them are minimalist designs with little more than a volume control and source selector. ..Yet someone who buys McIntosh is being ripped off, even though their gear lasts for decades, the company supports owners with a huge inventory of parts and repair technicians, and has terrific resale value. Kinda hard to fathom the logic.
