I find all your comments to the opposite of my experience. First of all, I play most things at 40-53% on the volume control. I get dynamic, big, generous sound with plenty of body to the sound. And with the tubes, it is round, 3 dimensional sound, lifelike in Timbre and Scale. Softer music still wants to turned up on the Vol control.
You might think the volume is set ok, but it goes up so gradually, and the sound gets bigger, more palpable and spacious as it goes up, until I find the optimum volume for whatever I'm listening to.
I have Kef speakers, and have never heard any B&W that I liked at all.
Mac and Kef are a Match made in Heaven as far as I'm concerned.
I wouldn't have anything else.
