My one McIntosh Experience: Rich warm bloated flabby and veiled

OK, I admit that was my experience with just one McIntosh tube integrated amp in one setup at a dealer showroom. The MA-2275 tube integrated was driving a pair of B&W tower speakers. I don't recall the model but it sounded flabby and bloated in the bass and slightly compressed and veiled overall.

We switched to a Musical Fidelity solid-state integrated at a fraction of the price and it sounded so much better. Deep tight bass, transparent and clear, no more veil or compression. Perhaps a speaker mismatch for the McIntosh MA-2275? I don't know but the 'cheapie' Musical Fidelity was significantly better in this setup.

Is that the McIntosh house sound? I have no idea. And I have yet to hear a McIntosh solid state amp.
