Panasonic SA-XR50 questions

I am planning to get this receiver. This is only for 2 channel system.
1-) I hear that the best way to use this unit is via its digital input; so, how can I connect my Audio Aero Prima CDP to it?
2-) Is having an expensive CDP like AA Prima neccessary when used with the Panny if it is connected via digital input?
3-) If necessary, would using the Panny with a step-up transformer affect the sound quality?
Please help before I make my purchase. Thanks!
