Panasonic Digital Receiver Refurbs???

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

I am interested in buying one of the Panasonic Digital Recievers.
I have looked around quit a bit and have found a bunch of refurbed
units on ebay as well as yahoo shopping. Does anyone have any idea
why there seems to be so many of the SA-XR25's offered as refurbs??
Did they have a common defect?? Do you think that the refurbs are
a 'safe' investment. If you are buying any of the digital receivers,
which of the Panasonics is the best buy?? I am buying this for my
son. I am trying to get him addicted to my hobby...shame on me.
